Spotlight On: Polynucleotides

The modern trends in skin rejuvenation are evolving, with a focus on 'skin health,' 'skin quality,' and achieving a 'natural look' being the primary objectives of most aesthetic treatments. Thanks to advancements in modern science and technology, innovative anti-aging treatments now offer the opportunity to restore a more youthful appearance without resorting to surgery. In this discussion, I am excited to highlight the benefits of polynucleotides.

First Of All - What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides (PNs) are extracted from the gonads of Pacific salmon, trout fish, and sturgeons. They undergo purification and are used in injection treatment products as natural DNA molecules. In the current aesthetic market, Plinest and Rejuran stands out as the most notable brands delivering polynucleotide via injection.  As we age, our cells lose their ability to communicate effectively, leading to slower cell turnover and the breakdown of key structural proteins like collagen and elastin. Polynucleotides are intricately designed to deliver specific signals to skin cells to jumpstart youthful cellular processes through tissue regeneration.

Indications and Benefits of PN-based Skin Treatment

Skin aging is associated with qualitative and quantitative degeneration of skin components, including dermal collagen and elastin. Extrinsic factors like UV radiation, smoking, and stress contribute to oxidative damage, causing an overload of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and a simultaneous depletion of natural antioxidants. Polynucleotides treatment offers a key advantage in promoting skin healing and regeneration. Operating at the cellular level, PNs expedite the skin's inherent healing mechanisms, aiding in the repair of damaged tissues. As a result, it is actively employed to combat the signs of aging, fostering a more youthful appearance.

PNs can be effectively administered through injections in various areas, including the face, decollete, neck, body, and the back of hands. The primary goal is to rejuvenate the skin, enhance hydration, address scars, and improve the appearance of stretch marks on the body. These injections can activate fibroblasts, prompting collagen production, which in turn restores skin firmness, refines skin texture, and diminishes the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles.  By boosting collagen levels, PNs promote a more lifted and resilient-looking skin. Moreover, PNs have been proven to normalize hair follicular activity, promoting hair growth in areas such as the scalp, eyebrows, and beard. This versatile treatment offers not only cosmetic benefits for the skin but also extends its positive impact to support healthy hair growth in various regions.

According to a clinical study conducted in the Republic of Korea, there is compelling evidence supporting the beneficial effects of off-label treatment of facial erythema using PNs. These treatments are anticipated to fortify the skin barrier and exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, thereby improving facial erythema resulting from inflammatory facial dermatosis, repeated laser treatments/microneedling radiofrequency, or excessive steroid use.

Similarly, an Italian clinical study suggests that combination therapy involving hyaluronic acid and PNs can expedite the healing process of wounds in venous ulcers. This combined approach demonstrates the ability to reduce inflammation in perilesional areas, promote wound contraction, and facilitate epithelialization. The findings from these studies underscore the diverse and promising applications of PNs in addressing various dermatological concerns.

PN-HPT Priming Concept

Polynucleotides Highly Purified Technology (PN-HPT) introduces the concept of priming, wherein polynucleotides serve as a foundational preparation for tissues. This involves their application both before and in conjunction with other treatments, aiming to achieve enhanced aesthetic outcomes. This innovative approach is poised to be applicable across various procedures, spanning wound care, dermatology, and aesthetic medicine.

The administration of PN proves beneficial when employed prior to other skin treatment modalities, including lasers, peeling, or surgical procedures like double eyelid stitch or blepharoplasty. By integrating PN into the pre-treatment phase, it not only amplifies the results but also contributes to a shorter recovery time, particularly when initiated before the subsequent procedure. This pioneering technique holds promise for optimizing the overall effectiveness of various treatments in the realm of aesthetic medicine.

Polynucleotide + PRF = Powerful Antiaging Combo

The majority of anti-aging treatments available today primarily focus on addressing superficial skin changes. These treatments often offer temporary solutions, such as the plumping of wrinkles, exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, or the provision of antioxidants for protection against additional damage. While these effects can be beneficial in the short term, they fail to tackle the fundamental cellular causes of skin aging. In order to achieve more lasting and comprehensive results, a deeper understanding and targeted approach to the root causes of skin aging are essential.

Polynucleotides and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) are distinct therapies, each targeting the intricate cellular processes involved in aging to rejuvenate the skin from within. Unlike treatments that merely conceal the damage, these therapies actively work to undo it at a foundational level. This unique approach allows for longer-lasting and progressive improvements over time.

Polynucleotides focus on renewing cellular metabolism, and restoring youthful functioning, while PRF enhances the body’s own tissue-regenerating mechanisms. When used in combination, they create a comprehensive cellular rejuvenation that surpasses other therapy combinations. This synergistic approach addresses all facets of aging, resulting in more substantial improvements in texture, tone, firmness, and wrinkles.

Conclusion

In summary, polynucleotides treatment has an excellent safety profile and is generally well-tolerated. Side effects are minimal, with little to no downtime post-procedure. It is important to note that the anti-aging effects are progressive, requiring time for cellular renewal and collagen regeneration to fully unfold.
